The New York State Certified Officials of Soccer needs new referees in all areas of the State. No experience is necessary – Local officials organizations will provide all the training you need. You can earn while you learn.

Thank you for your interest in officiating high school soccer. Following are some steps you should follow to start your referee career. If you have any questions that cannot be answered by a local board representative – please contact John Hogan, NYSCOS Secretary/Treasurer.

1. Contact the local board representative in the area/section of New York that you would like to referee in. Please see Local Board Directory. If there is more than one local board that services the area that you would like to work in – you may contact one or all representatives.

2. Most local board offer both indoor and outdoor clinics that will provide you with basic high school soccer rules familiarity and the game mechanics necessary to work a high school contest.

3. All new officials must take and pass the National Federation High School rules exam.

4. Complete any other local requirements – participate in some pre-season scrimmages and you are on your way to becoming a NYSCOS certified soccer official.

If you are unsure of whom to contact or are unable to contact the local board representative – please use the Contact Us Form and you will receive a direct reply from NYSCOS
